Lateral Thinking

Decolonizing Design Education

Acknowledging the reality of the colonized aspects of the current design industry, Lateral Thinking is an attempt to revisit the typical design education to advocate for a more inclusive learning experience. This project consists of three main parts: a reimagined design curriculum, course outlines, and visual explorations. To bring in various perspectives on the topic of decolonization, all parts were made in collaboration with students, alumni, and faculty both within and outside of the MICA community. Lateral Thinking was featured in SHIFT{ed} Summer Summit conference, hosted by AIGA Design Educators Community.
